SERBIA-ITALIA 3-1 (25-21; 25-20; 26-28; 25-19)

Press conference captains-coaches
Nikola Grbic (captain Serbia): “ I played so many matches but please believe me it was not easy to forget yesterday’s match. We succeeded in playing well, more than Italy which made us uffer during the third set, when they served well. This medal is a great result, after two consecutive fourth places. This certainly was my last match with my national teamâ€.
Valerio Vermiglio (captain Italy): “ Yesterday our dream of playing the final here had been broken, and today we started well but had not enough continuity during the game. Congratulations to Serbia who deserved the bronze medal. I think this was a positive tournament for Italy, since we made better than in the recent pastâ€.
Igor Kolacovic (coach Serbia): “We are happy with third place in such an important event. We had some ups and downs but I think we deserved this victory. I want to express my appreciation to the players for having reacted this way, despite the defeat against Cubaâ€.
Andrea Anastasi (coach Italy): “I’ve got contrasting feeleings. On one side I have the joy of having brought Italy to the third round and played in Rome in front of a wonderful audience. On the other hand, I have de deception for not having played well in the last two matches. This is the law of sport, and I have to accept it. I think it’s been a good World Champiosnhip, with so many high-level teams and wonderful fans in every city and venueâ€.
In tutti i set ce l’abbiamo messa tutta, non regalando niente all’Italiaâ€.
Nikola Kovacevic (Serbia): “We expected to face a stronger Italy, but probably they were tired because of yesterday’s match. Italy made too many errors. and we were good at waiting for the right moments to score”.
Ivan Miljkovic (Serbia): “I think that we had more will than Italy to grab this medal. I think this is an important win, we have a young team which can grow further”.
Andrea Bari (Italia): “We wanted to win a medal, that’s why we were here. In the third set we did fine, but then – witha disadvantage of six points – it was too hard for us”.
Simone Parodi (Italia): “We played a good volleyball only every now and then, so I am really sad about this, since we worked very hard to get here well trained. But this is sport: joys and deceptions”.
Ivan Zaytsev (Italia): “Our will wasn’t enough. We were too nervous, only in the third set we did weIl. Serbia had hunger for victory, wanted the podium at any rate. We must admit they were good”.
Emanuele Birarelli (Italia): “Tonight we made too many errors and often haven’t been concrete. It’s a pity that we close this tournament with two defeats”.
Bojan Janic (Serbia): “We are happy because we wanted this medal. We didn’t let anything to Italy, we fought hard on every ball”.
Davide Marra (Italia): “What a pity not having claimed at least a medal. They were good in serving, and didn’t let us know play the way we are used to”.
Andrea Sala (Italia): “We were a bit too nervous, this was the same error we made in the Final Six of the World League.. I’ll go on doing my best to be again in this wonderful group”.
Luigi Mastrangelo (Italia): “When matches start this way it’s difficult to come out: we tried to do it, in the third set, when we served well. I think we made a great effort, but it wasn’t enough”.
Dragan Stankovic (Serbia): “Yesterday we lost an extremely important match, but soon we recovered and got ready for today’s win against Italy. We are very happy for having grabbed this bronze medal”.
