Luxembourg, March 2, 2010. After having carefully analyzed the applications that were received over the past weeks, the European Volleyball Confederation finally decided to allot to the clubs of Rabita BAKU (Azerbaijan) and DRESDNER SC (Germany) the organization of the finals for the 2009/2010 Women’s CEV Cup and GM Capital Challenge Cup respectively. CEV President André Meyer and Mrs. Riet Ooms, President of the European Cups Commission (ECC), were both extremely pleased with the dossiers received from the applicants and finally opted for the aforementioned clubs that will have a few tough weeks coming up very soon.
The event slated for next March 20-21 will be a real premiere for Saxony, with the local girls of DRESDNER SC being back among the top four in the GM Capital Challenge Cup after they had finished third a couple of years in Bursa (Turkey). DRESDNER SC will host the teams of Galatasaray ISTANBUL (Turkey), Asterix KIELDRECHT (Belgium) and Impel Gwardia WROCLAW (Poland) for what promises to be a really exciting Volleyball party.
On the same weekend Yamamay BUSTO ARSIZIO (Italy), Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD (Serbia) and Uralochka-NTMK EKATERINBURG (Russia) will resume to the capital city of Azerbaijan for the final four of the CEV Cup. This is the second time a final of the European Cups is staged in that country, after in 2002 the local heroines of Azerrail BAKU had seized the night in front of their home fans for the then Top Teams Cup in the final match against Jedinstvo UZICE.
A detailed match program for both finals will follow soon.[Cev]
