Montreux Volley Masters 2011 – One year ahead of the Olympic Games… new power balances are being set up!

Montreux, March 2011 – Two-times European Champion, Italy, is back on the Leman shores. Indeed, from June 7th to 12th, after one year of absence the “Azzurre” will be one of the attractions of the Montreux Volley Masters together with seven other big nations within the elite of volleyball worldwide.

Besides the Italians, ranked 2nd in 2009 on the Riviera, Europe will be represented by Germany and the Netherlands. At the 2010 World Championship, the Germans ended at a wonderful 7th place, a tribute to the serious work achieved by Giovanni Guidetti over the past years; while the “Oranje”, often ranking among the best but at time showing fickleness, succeed in maintaining, year after year, among the twelve first nations in the world.

China and Japan will be defending Asia world reputation. The Chinese game is as spectacular as ever, one new technical staff has been set into place though, with the aim to be back among the world Volleyball divas soon. While Japan, led by their super spiker, Saori Kimura, will probably put all their energy in confirming the unexpected and brilliant bronze medal obtained at the 2010 World Championship on home ground.

For the second year in a row after their five-year break, USA, best nation of the Norceca zone, will be there. They ranked 2nd last year and, while being at it, afterwards won the FIVB World Grand Prix ahead of Brazil. Loyal and reliable, Carribean gem, Cuba will of course also join in!

And … Peru will have to hoist the South American colours high in absence of Brazil! Peru that participated in Montreux once, in 1989, when Gabriela Perez del Solar led the team to the highest honours of the Volleyball planet!
Here we are! Unquestionably the 2011 edition will feature unreleased games and will keep its everlasting promise: offer to teams in mutation an undisputed scenery to play each other, learn and progress in their preparation towards international competitions without having the stakes of such.
